When Donald Trump lost about half a billion dollars yesterday and then announced he would be giving a speech today at a sneaker convention, it reeked of desperation. A broke Trump is now reduced to hawking shoes?

Also, Trump can’t do this kind of thing. These days Trump’s babysitters always put him in front of adoring cult audiences who are going to cheer him on no matter how senile his speech ends up being. They never put him in front of a mainstream real world audience these days. Sure enough, Trump’s attempt at a real world speech today went like this:

.

Two things stand out. First, Trump must be really broke if his handlers now have him doing these kinds of disastrously embarrassing gigs just to try to make a buck. Second, Trump didn’t seem like himself at all. When he used to get a smattering of boos at 2016 Republican primary debates, he’d respond combatively. When Trump got booed today, he just sort of passively folded. Trump is fading further from his old self as his mind continues to wither away.

Trump unveils $400 ‘Never Surrender’ sneakers at Philly’s Sneaker Con

Former President Trump unveiled $400 official “Never Surrender” sneakers at Philly’s Sneaker Con event on Saturday.

Trump debuted a line of tennis shoes called Trump Sneakers during his speech at the Sneaker Con event, which attracts shoe enthusiasts from around the country.

The lineup consists of two pairs. The more expensive shoe is the gold-colored high-top with the letter “T” on the side panel, starting at $399.

The other pair is the mid-top model that comes in two colors. The laceless shoes will be available in red and white colors and will cost $199.

“This is something I’ve been talking about for 12 years, 13 years,” Trump said on Saturday. “And I think it’s gonna be a big success. Your influences have been very positive. They’ve been real influences and they love it and they love what we’ve done.”

The website, where the shoes can be purchased, also has Victory 47 Cologne and Victory 47 Perfume, which go for $99 each.

None of the items on the website are connected to the former president’s presidential campaign or the Trump Organization, according to the website. Trump’s name, image and likeness were licensed to to CIC Ventures LLC.

During his appearance in Philadelphia, Trump spoke to a largely cheering crowd while some boos could be heard in between.

President Biden’s campaign poked fun at Trump’s sneaker unveiling.

“Donald Trump showing up to hawk bootleg Off-Whites is the closest he’ll get to any Air Force Ones ever again for the rest of his life,” communications director Michael Tyler said.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.), who co-launched the Congressional Sneaker Caucus (CSC) last April, is also not a fan of the shoes.

“While I welcome all new members to the bipartisan sneaker caucus these sneakers are a hard pass for me,” Moskowitz wrote Saturday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

As Thousands Protest in Tel Aviv, Netanyahu Dismisses Calls for Early Elections

JERUSALEM — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday dismissed the idea of holding early elections, while thousands of Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv for an anti-government protest.

Netanyahu has seen his popularity plummet in opinion polls since Hamas’ October 7 terror attack that sparked the devastating Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

Anti-government protests that shook the country for much of 2023 have largely subsided during the war. Still, demonstrators again took to the streets of Tel Aviv Saturday night calling for new elections, which are not scheduled until 2026.

The crowd was much smaller than last year’s mass protests, numbering a few thousand, according to local media.

“I’d like to say to the government that you’ve had your time, you ruined everything that you can ruin. Now is the time for the people to correct all the things, all the bad things that you’ve done,” said one protestor, his head wrapped in an Israeli flag.

Netanyahu was asked at a press briefing about calls within his own ruling Likud party to hold early elections right when the Israel-Hamas war ends.

“The last thing we need right now are elections and dealing with elections, since it will immediately divide us,” he said. “We need unity right now.”

Putin says ‘more predictable’ Biden a better choice for US than Trump

International-Putin-presser_121423_AP_Al

Russian President Vladimir Putin says he would rather see President Biden stay in office as opposed to former President Trump, describing the incumbent as “more predictable” than his GOP challenger.

Asked by journalist Pavel Zarubin for his 2024 election preference, Putin said, “Biden. He has more experience, and he is more predictable too, an old school politician,” according to remarks provided by the Kremlin this week.

“That said, we will work with any leader of the United States who has the trust of the American people,” he continued.

Despite his preference for Biden, Putin did not stop short of criticizing the White House.

“I believe that the current administration is pursuing what amounts to a harmful and erroneous policy. This is what I told President Biden back then,” Putin said, per the Kremlin.

Trump, who regularly describes the autocratic Putin as “smart,” called the remarks “a great compliment” at a rally in South Carolina.

“He just said that he would much rather have Joe Biden as president than Trump,” he said. “Now that’s a compliment. … And of course, he would say that.”

“He doesn’t want to have me. He wants Biden because he’s going to be given everything he wants, including Ukraine,” Trump added.

The Hill has reached out to the White House and Trump campaign for further comment.

Biden assumed the presidency about one year before Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and has maintained steadfast support for Kyiv. The U.S. has given Ukraine billions in funding and ammunition, though additional funding remains in limbo as lawmakers struggle to come to an agreement on the topic.

The Senate passed a $95.3 billion emergency defense spending legislation earlier this week that would provide $60 billion to Ukraine, though House Republicans have remained opposed to moving a funding bill without provisions to address the border and immigration policy.

Putin appeared to dismiss swirling concerns over Biden’s age and mental fitness during his interview with Zarubuin.

“What this suggests to me is that the election campaign and domestic political struggles are gaining traction in the United States. These processes are exacerbating so I do not think that it would be appropriate for us to weigh in on them,” he said.

The Russian leader recounted meeting the president in Geneva in 2021 and said he did not notice anything that made Biden unfit for office.

“Well, he [Biden] did keep glancing at his notes but, to be honest, I looked at mine too. Nothing special about that,” Putin said. “And the fact that he banged his head on something when descending from a helicopter, well, who of us has never banged his head on something? Let them throw the first stone, as the saying goes.”

Special counsel Robert Hur last week released his report on Biden’s handling of classified documents, in which he included a scathing description of various memory lapses from the president.

Hur described Biden as an “elderly man with a poor memory,” resulting in fury from the administration and Democrats, who called the comments out of line and unsubstantiated.

Trump, meanwhile, is facing backlash after saying he’d actually encourage Russian aggression toward “delinquent” NATO allies that do not meet defense spending targets.

The former president has repeatedly touted his relationship with Putin and last year claimed he was “the apple of his eye” during his administration. He has maintained he could end Russia’s war with Ukraine in 24 hours if elected back to the Oval Office.

While in office, Trump faced bipartisan criticism for siding with Putin over the conclusions of the U.S. intelligence community regarding Moscow’s meddling in the 2016 election.

“I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today,” Trump said in 2018.

“He just said it’s not Russia. I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be,” he added.
