The younger teen was involved in a scuffle that began around 2 p.m. inside Taha Deli and Grill on Flatlands Avenue near East 81st Street in Canarsie – turning violent when his 15-year-old rival knifed him in the left leg, authorities and sources said.
A teen boy was stabbed on Thursday afternoon on a Canarsie street that has seen a number of violent incidents over the past few months.
Just before 4 p.m., police received a 911 call regarding a stabbing outside a deli at 8010 Flatlands Ave., per the NYPD, steps from Bildersee Playground and I.S. 068 Isaac Bildersee. The exact details of the incident are not yet clear, but School Safety Agents responded to the scene and found the 14-year-old victim, who has remained anonymous, with a stab would to the left leg.
Paramedics rushed the victim, who lost significant amounts of blood on the scene, to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.
An investigation was ongoing as of Friday afternoon, police said, and no arrests have been made. Officers said the suspect was last seen wearing a black ski mask, beige pants, and a red hoodie, though it was not known if the alleged attacker was a fellow teen, or if the victim and assailant knew each other.
The area has seen a spate of violence involving teens. Last month, an 18-year-old man was shot in the head and critically injured at Bildersee Playground. In September, two teens were shot – and one arrested — at the same playground, and that incident sent nearby schools into lockdown. Just a few blocks south, a young student was shot outside South Shore High School in Flatlands on Sept. 24.
In the 69th Precinct, where the Bildersee Playground is located, shooting incidents have increased more than 7% year-over-year, according to the latest NYPD data, with a total of 15 incidents. The overall rate of violent crime in the precinct, however, is down slightly.
