Two Brooklyn cops assaulted while attempting to break up late-night street disturbance: NYPD


Two Brooklyn cops were hospitalized on Saturday night after being assaulted while they attempted to arrest someone for a late-night disturbance, authorities said.

According to police sources, the incident unfolded at around 10:12 p.m. on Aug. 24 as officers from the 83rd Precinct worked to disperse a disorderly crowd from Weirfield Street and Central Avenue in Bushwick.

Chaos quickly erupted, law enforcement sources said, as the officers attempted to take one particularly belligerent individual into custody.

As they tried to make the arrest, several group members attacked two of the officers, wildly punching and kicking them, law enforcement sources said.

The officers called for backup, and after the reinforcements arrived, three more suspects were arrested three suspects in connection to the incident.

One of the attacked officers suffered minor injuries to the face, police said; both cops were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, charges against the three suspects are pending. The investigation remains ongoing.
