Downtown Brooklyn is set to welcome a trio of new retail tenants as the Alloy Block continues to build out its ground-floor commercial offerings along Flatbush Avenue.
Japanese lifestyle retailer MUJI, local bakery and cafe Winner, and sports collectibles retailer CardVault by Tom Brady will soon open at Alloy, occupying more than 13,000 combined square feet. Developer Alloy Development expects the remaining retail space to be leased and filled later this year.
Jared Della Valle, founder and CEO of Alloy Development, said the company was “proud to welcome” the spaces to the neighborhood.
“The retail space at the Alloy Block is a dynamic new presence on bustling Flatbush Avenue, bringing a global brand, a local bakery and a unique sports-collectibles experience to Downtown Brooklyn,” he said. “[We’re] creating a new shopping and dining destination that reflects the area’s energy, creativity and diversity.”
MUJI will occupy approximately 10,000 square feet, creating the company’s second Brooklyn location. The Japanese retailer is known for its minimalist home goods, apparel, personal care items and everyday products, with an emphasis on functional design and reducing waste. The new store is expected to open in early 2027.
Park Slope-based Winner will also expand its Brooklyn footprint with a new 2,726-square-foot café and bakery at the development. The business, led by Michelin-starred chef and restaurateur Daniel Eddy, is known for its sourdough bread, French-inspired pastries, sandwiches and specialty coffee. The Downtown Brooklyn location will serve as the company’s second flagship store and is slated to open this fall under a 10-year lease.
Meanwhile, CardVault by Tom Brady has already begun serving customers after opening its 973-square-foot store at 80 Flatbush Ave. in March. The shop marks the retailer’s second New York City location and first in Brooklyn, offering sports cards, memorabilia and trading card games, along with services that allow collectors to buy, sell, trade and grade their collections. The business also signed a 10-year lease.
The Alloy Block spans 505 State St. and One Third Ave. and is being developed in two phases. The project includes residential, office, retail and community spaces.
Its first phase, 505 State St., is New York City’s first all-electric skyscraper and operates entirely on renewable energy from local community solar sources. Construction is also underway on One Third Ave., which Alloy says will become the tallest Passive House building in the world at 730 feet.
When completed, the Alloy Block is expected to include more than 1,000 apartments — about 200 of them permanently affordable — along with 60,000 square feet of office space, 30,000 square feet of retail space and two Passive House public schools.
