Baku-Stepanakert dialogue the path to reduce tensions – Armenia MFA

The Baku-Stepanakert dialogue is the path to reduce tensions, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It voiced hope that international partners interested in regional stability would take additional steps to establish reliable mechanisms for such dialogue

On September 18, during the meeting with representatives of the diplomatic corps at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani side presented narratives which sound like diplomatic preparation to start concrete actions aimed at ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and for a new military escalation in the region.

“The narrative of the Azerbaijani officials voiced at the meeting with the foreign diplomats accredited in Azerbaijan is aimed at making the international community “complicit” in the implementation of the policy of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and aggression against Armenia, and such an approach is unacceptable,” the Foreign Ministry said.

“During the above-mentioned meeting, the representatives of Azerbaijan claimed that the Republic of Armenia rejects all proposals aimed at reducing tensions. It is unclear what proposals Azerbaijan is talking about, and it was not clarified in the communication about the meeting either. We consider it necessary to mention that the proposal for the mirror distancing of troops from the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border remains relevant and the Republic of Armenia is ready to engage in discussions on its implementation with utmost priority,” it added.

“Azerbaijan’s claims that the Republic of Armenia has established a regime on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh have nothing to do with reality. The support of the Republic of Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh has humanitarian nature, the necessity of which is further emphasized by the humanitarian crisis resulting from the illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor. The Republic of Armenia welcomes the entry of the first humanitarian supplies to Nagorno-Karabakh after a long break and hopes that it will be ongoing and stable,” the statement reads.

The Ministry emphasized that the 9-month-long blockade of the Lachin corridor is a gross violation of the Trilateral statement of November 9, 2020 and the legally binding Orders of the International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6, 2023.

“There would be no statements by Armenia, international partners, or even Azerbaijan on the readiness to provide humanitarian support to Nagorno-Karabakh, if Azerbaijan itself, with its illegal actions, did not create a humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh and did not hinder the access of the UN structures and other international partners to Nagorno-Karabakh. In parallel with the blockade of the Lachin corridor, Azerbaijan has disrupted gas and electricity supplies to Nagorno-Karabakh, which makes it obvious that the Azerbaijan’s narrative about blockade is false: if Azerbaijan explains the illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor with false claims about the transportation of weapons and ammunition through the corridor to Nagorno-Karabakh, then it is unclear what else can be transported through the power lines, except electricity, and what else can be transported through the gas pipeline, except natural gas. As for the Azerbaijani claims about the presence of the Armenian army in Nagorno-Karabakh, we once again emphasize that the Republic of Armenia does not have an army in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the false claims about Armenian mining on the territory of Azerbaijan were rejected by the Order of the International Court of Justice of February 22,” the Foreign Ministry said.

“We consider it necessary to emphasize once again that the Republic of Armenia reaffirms its commitment to the peace agenda, as well as to the agreements reached in Prague on October 6, 2022 and in Brussels on May 14, 2023. We note with concern that the official Baku has not yet publicly confirmed its commitment, in particular to the Brussels agreements of May 14, 2023, and such an approach constitutes a key factor of the tension in the region,” it added.

“We do not understand Azerbaijan’s considerations regarding the development of Armenia’s military capabilities either. The Republic of Armenia has repeatedly stated that it has no intention to take aggressive actions against its neighbors, and the reforms in the military sector are aimed at ensuring its own territorial security,” the Foreign Ministry stated.

“Regarding the situation created around Nagorno-Karabakh, we see the Baku-Stepanakert dialogue as the path to reduce tensions, and we hope that international partners interested in regional stability will take additional steps to establish reliable mechanisms for such dialogue,” it concluded.

India rejects Canada“s suspicions on role in Sikh leader“s murder

2023-09-19T07:44:53Z

Canada said on Monday (September 18) it had credible information linking Indian government agents to the murder of a Sikh separatist leader in British Columbia in June. Almond Li reports.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said authorities were “actively pursuing credible allegations” linking New Delhi’s agents to the murder of a Sikh separatist leader, a concern India dismissed as “absurd”.

The spat deals a fresh blow to diplomatic ties that have been fraying for years, with New Delhi unhappy over Sikh separatist activity in Canada. It now threatens trade ties too, with talks on a proposed trade deal frozen last week.

Each nation also expelled a diplomat in tat-for-tat moves, with Canada throwing out India’s top intelligence agent there while New Delhi responded by giving a Canadian diplomat five days to leave.

Any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen was “an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty”, Trudeau told the House of Commons in an emergency statement on Monday.

He was referring to Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, shot dead outside a Sikh temple on June 18 in Surrey, a Vancouver suburb with a large Sikh population, three years after India had designated him as a “terrorist”.

Nijjar supported a Sikh homeland in the form of an independent, so-called state of Khalistan state in India’s northern state of Punjab, the birthplace of the Sikh religion, which borders Pakistan.

On Tuesday, India’s foreign ministry said it had given the Canadian diplomat five days to leave the country, without disclosing his name or rank.

“The decision reflects the government of India’s growing concern at the interference of Canadian diplomats in our internal matters and their involvement in anti-India activities,” it said in a statement.

The ministry had summoned Cameron MacKay, Canada’s high commissioner, or ambassador, in New Delhi to notify him of the move, it added.

Earlier, New Delhi urged Ottawa to take action against anti-Indian elements in Canada.

“Allegations of the government of India’s involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated,” it said, adding that similar accusations made by Trudeau to Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been “completely rejected”.

It said the “unsubstantiated allegations” sought to shift focus away from “Khalistani terrorists and extremists who have been provided shelter in Canada”.

The ministry added, “We urge the government of Canada to take prompt and effective legal action against all anti-India elements operating from their soil,” the ministry said.

Trudeau said he had raised the matter directly with Modi on the sidelines of G20 summit in New Delhi on Sept. 9 and 10, and had urged his government to co-operate with Canada to resolve it.

Modi, in turn, conveyed strong concern to Trudeau over recent demonstrations in Canada by Sikhs calling for an independent state.

Canada has the largest population of Sikhs outside the Indian state of Punjab, with about 770,000 people reporting Sikhism as their religion in the 2021 census.

Khalistan is an independent Sikh state whose creation has been sought for decades. A Sikh insurgency killed tens of thousands of people in India in the 1980s and early 1990s before it was suppressed by tough security action.

However, New Delhi has been wary of any revival, with a particular focus on small groups of Sikhs in Australia, Britain, Canada and the United States, who support the separatist demand and occasionally stage protests outside its embassies.

The United States and Australia expressed “deep concern” over Canada’s accusations, while Britain said it was in close touch with its Canadian partners about the “serious allegations”.

India has been particularly sensitive to Sikh protesters in Canada with some Indian analysts saying Ottawa does not stop them as Sikhs are a politically influential group there.

In June, India criticised Canada for permitting a float in a parade depicting the 1984 assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards, perceived to be glorification of violence by Sikh separatists.

Ottawa paused talks this month on a proposed trade treaty with India, just three months after both said they aimed to seal an initial deal this year.

Modi did not hold a two-way meeting with Trudeau at the G20 summit, despite similar meetings with other world leaders. Days earlier, metro stations in the Indian capital were vandalised with pro-Khalistan graffiti.

Russia Strikes Western Ukraine in Drone Attack

Ukrainian officials said Tuesday that Russian aerial attacks hit the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, causing a fire at an industrial warehouse.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said on Telegram that one person was injured.

Maxim Kozitsky, the regional governor, said a woman was also rescued from the rubble at the site, but was not hurt.  Kozitsky said the warehouse was not storing military equipment.

Lviv, located near Ukraine’s border with Poland, is a key hub for western aid entering Ukraine and has been the target of prior Russian attacks.

Ukraine’s military said air defenses destroyed 27 of 30 drones that Russia used in its attacks, with intercepts happening in southern, central and western Ukraine.

The military also said it downed a Russian reconnaissance drone in the eastern part of the country.

Some information for this report came from Agence France-Presse and Reuters

This is psychotic even for Donald Trump

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and is observed by millions of people. It is a time of renewal, a time to give thanks, and a time to be with family. And this year, during the celebration of this holiday, which began on Friday, Donald John Trump decided it might be fun to make threats against the Jewish community.

“Just a quick reminder for liberal hews who voted to destroy America & Israel because you believed false narratives! Let’s hope you learn from your mistakes & make better choices moving forward! Happy New Year!”

Destroyed America? Learned from mistakes? I’ve written — I’m not sure exactly how many but many, many articles about Trump’s sins, his behavior and his psychotic rants. This ranks up there as one of the worst. The blowback was swift, not that it’ll matter to Trump.

Trump’s disgusting words definitely, from my point of view, encourage violence. This is because whatever Trump says is devoured by his small but beastly band of supporters. And in the last few years, threats against not just the Jewish community but MANY OTHER COMMUNITIES have risen dramatically.

And what projection! The Jewish community is widely known to support President Biden in huge numbers. Perhaps that is why Trump said what he did. If the Jewish community supported him, he’d have likely labeled them the best group of people ever.

Trump’s lust for violence and his deranged postings, not to mention his idiocy and senility, are foaming over. What he said about the Jewish community and how he chose to say it is despicable, disgusting and psychotic.

And these words of hate will only make most despise him more. And if he doesn’t understand that, then he’s a fool.

In fact, the Jewish community who favored Biden by enormous amounts contributed greatly to the strengthening of America by casting their votes for Joe Biden. I do hope this psychotic man/boy is put away soon. He is a threat to humanity, and his jailing cannot come soon enough for me.
