A 73-year-old woman was fatally struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee at the intersection of Avenue L and East 12th Street in Midwood on Sunday.

According to police, the woman, Chana Layosh, was crossing near the Bais Horoa of Flatbush when she was hit by the vehicle, which was traveling eastbound and making a right turn just after 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 1.

Paramedics rushed the woman to Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Shopping bags could be observed laying in the roadway following the crash, which happened just steps from Layosh’s home.

The 57-year-old driver of the Jeep remained at the scene. No charges or arrests were made as of Monday morning.

The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad.

Rain couldn’t put a damper on the Thanksgiving spirit in Flatbush, as residents gathered at the historic Kings Theatre on Thursday for the neighborhood’s seventh annual Thanksgiving luncheon.

The festive feast, prepared by culinary students from Erasmus High School, included turkey, ham, chicken, and all the classic trimmings. The beloved tradition brought together hundreds of community members, offering a welcoming space for those without family to enjoy a warm holiday meal.

“We’re here welcoming the community and those who may not have family to celebrate Thanksgiving with,” Council Member Rita Joseph told Brooklyn Paper. “We’re thankful to be able to serve, and of course, for my young people who cooked the food from scratch, which is amazing. We want to thank all of our sponsors who made this event possible.”

The pol helped organize the event in partnership with the Church-Flatbush Community Alliance, Kings Theatre, AOHT at Erasmus and Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn.

Kings Theatre originally opened in 1929 as a movie palace. After undergoing a $95 million restoration, it reopened in 2015, continuing its legacy of community engagement by hosting events like Thursday’s.
