Pier 2’s roller rink glides into new season this weekend with upgrades, free skate sessions

Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 2 Roller Rink will reopen for the season this Friday, March 28, welcoming roller skating enthusiasts back to the rink.

To mark its 11th skating season, organizers have planned a celebration featuring live music, food vendors, and activities for all ages on opening day. The outdoor rink, which offers sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline, has been a popular attraction since it first opened in 2014.

The skating surface, made of plastic-based material, provides a smoother ride and softer landings compared to traditional concrete surfaces. This season, the rink has undergone upgrades, including a resurfaced floor and the addition of 100 new pairs of roller skates for rental.

“We have also expanded our café offerings to include ice cream, slushies, nachos, and more, giving guests more variety while they skate,” organizers said.

The rink will operate through November, offering a mix of open skating, themed nights, skating lessons, and community events.

Free community skate sessions will be available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to noon. Admission is free, and there is an $8 skate rental fee.

Discounted $5 skate nights will be held on Fridays from 6 to 8:30 p.m., while general admission on Saturdays and Sundays runs from noon to 8:30 p.m. at $12, with an $8 skate rental fee.

Organizers at Pier 2 said the rink welcomes skaters of all ages, from toddlers to seasoned pros. Rental options include toddler skates, quad skates, and rollerblades, with wrist guards provided free of charge.
