88th Precinct: Violent carjackers rob man, steal car

88TH PRECINCT

Fort Greene–Clinton Hill

Violent carjackers rob man, steal car

A pair of violent thieves robbed a man and stole his car on April 21.

The victim told police he was walking home from work along Navy Walk just before 2 a.m. when one perpetrator grabbed him from behind, put him in a chokehold, and shoved him against a fence — then said “don’t move” while holding the victim at gunpoint. Another perp moved in and the pair stole the victim’s phone, wallet with cash and credit cards, and car keys, then fled toward the victim’s parked car. They jumped into the car and sped off, police said.

Cops searched the area to no avail, and were attempting to find surveillance footage. License plate recognition dinged the car on Carlton Avenue just after the incident, but had not picked it up since then.

Woman stabbed during argument

A woman was stabbed during an argument with an acquaintance on April 25.

Police said the victim had a verbal tiff with a neighbor on Monument Walk just after 5 p.m. The acquaintance was holding a knife, the victim told police, and allegedly lunged at her and stabbed her in the stomach.

The victim was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital for treatment, and officers arrested the alleged attacker a few hours later.

Burglar breaks into restaurant

A burglar struck a neighborhood Italian restaurant on April 22.

The thief used a rock inside a shopping bag to break the glass front door at Aita restaurant on Greene Street just before 2 a.m., police said, then slipped inside and surveyed their options. Within ten minutes, the burglar had gathered up several liquor bottles and the whole cash register and fled through the front door and down Waverly Avenue.

The cash register was found abandoned at the corner of Gates and Waverly avenues, cops said, and officers were able to find camera footage of the incident.

Tools taken from apartment

Two people broke into an Adelphi Street apartment and stole expensive hand tools on April 25.

The victim told police some thief forced their way into an under-construction ground floor apartment shortly before midnight and grabbed a screw gun, multi tool, and miscellaneous hand tools – worth more than $1,000 in total — before fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage showed a second person acting as lookout in front of the building, according to police. The apartment is under construction, and was vacant at the time of the incident.

Sneak steals vacuum

A sneak wormed their way into a Putnam Avenue apartment house in search of home goods on April 22.

According to police, the thief used a credit card to open the front door of the building at around 10:15 p.m. Once inside, they grabbed a vacuum cleaner and shopping cart that had been left in the front hallway and fled with their unusual items, valued at over $500.
