(TJV NEWS) As reported by The Post Millennial and based on information released by Columbia University, at least 65 students have been suspended following a violent takeover of Butler Library on Wednesday. An additional 33 individuals, including alumni and people from affiliated institutions, have been banned from campus, university officials confirmed. The action follows Columbia’s pledge to enforce immediate disciplinary measures against those involved.

The disruption occurred while students were preparing for final exams. Dozens of masked demonstrators stormed the library, distributing literature that glorified Basel Al-Araj—a Palestinian man identified by Israeli authorities as a terrorist—while chanting pro-Palestinian slogans and vandalizing school property. Two campus security officers were reportedly assaulted, prompting the university to call in the NYPD, which made 80 arrests: 61 women and 19 men.

During the brief occupation, the protesters renamed the library “Basel Al-Araj Popular University” in honor of the man killed by Israeli forces in 2017, who was accused of directing a terrorist cell. A pamphlet circulated by the group CU Apartheid Divest praised Al-Araj for his resistance activities and accused universities of suppressing pro-Palestinian narratives.

The materials listed several demands: divestment from Israel, removal of law enforcement and immigration authorities from campus, and full amnesty for disciplined students and faculty.

Columbia’s acting president, Claire Shipman, issued a sharp rebuke in response to the incident.

“Disruptions to our academic activities will not be tolerated and are violations of our rules and policies,” she said. “This is especially unacceptable while our students study and prepare for final exams. Columbia strongly condemns violence on our campus, antisemitism, and all forms of hate and discrimination.”

The university’s disciplinary response follows a warning from the Trump administration, which has threatened to pull federal funding from schools that permit antisemitic activity. Columbia has already seen $400 million in federal funding revoked, according to recent reports.

This latest protest echoes events from the prior spring, when a prolonged anti-Israel encampment on campus ended with NYPD intervention after another building occupation turned violent.

In addition, Fox News reported that Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) has requested identifying information from the NYPD, including fingerprints, to verify the visa status of those arrested.

(TJV NEWS) Just hours after US President Donald Trump declared a “FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE” between nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan, the fragile truce collapsed as Pakistan reportedly violated the agreement, drawing condemnation and reigniting fears of renewed conflict in South Asia.

The ceasefire, announced by President Trump on Truth Social late Saturday, followed an intensive US-led diplomatic push to de-escalate a crisis that had brought the two countries to the brink of war.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump wrote. “Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who had led backchannel diplomacy over the previous 48 hours, also confirmed the ceasefire in a coordinated statement on X, detailing outreach to senior Indian and Pakistani officials. “We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace,” Rubio wrote.

However, NDTV reported that within minutes of the ceasefire being announced, Pakistan violated the agreement, prompting an immediate military response from India. Drone sightings were reported in Jammu and Kashmir, with Indian officials expressing alarm on social media.

Omar Abdullah, former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, and Gujarat home minister Harsh Sanghavi both raised red flags on X about the breach, sparking concerns across the Indian political spectrum.

In a move raising geopolitical tension even further, China publicly voiced support for Pakistan just as reports of the violation emerged. According to a statement released by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar that Beijing “stands firmly” with Islamabad in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

This show of support came after Dar briefed Wang on the border skirmishes and the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

India’s Ministry of Defence quickly responded, saying:

“There have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding… Our armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response.”

The Indian government has issued strong instructions to its military to “deal strongly with any further violations” along the International Border and Line of Control.

While the initial announcement by Trump was hailed as a diplomatic breakthrough, Pakistan’s rapid violation of the ceasefire has cast serious doubt on the viability of the agreement, and could undermine further US-led efforts to mediate peace between the two South Asian rivals.

With China signaling overt support for Pakistan, and with Turkey reportedly being briefed as well, the region now teeters once again on the edge of a dangerous escalation—just hours after a deal that many hoped would prevent war.
