With comfortable temperatures and plenty of sunshine, thousands of spectators packed Fifth Avenue in Park Slope on May 18 for the annual Fabulous Fifth Avenue Fair, which spanned 18 blocks from Sterling Place to 12th Street.

Hundreds of merchants and vendors set up shop along the avenue — named the world’s coolest street by Time Out New York in 2024. The Park Slope tradition featured classic fair food like funnel cakes, turkey legs and Italian sausages, along with sellers pushing home decor, clothing and handmade crafts. Kids enjoyed bouncy castles, while pet groomer and supply store Bark Slope hosted BARRK Animal Rescue & Rehab for K9s, helping 12 puppies find their “furever” homes.

The bustling street fair serves as an important fundraiser for the event’s sponsor, the Park Slope Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District.

“Fifth Avenue was packed with thousands of enthusiastic fair-goers from our Park Slope neighborhood and beyond – all coming together to support our vibrant local businesses while enjoying the splendid weather,” Erika Clark, board president for the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID, told Brooklyn Paper.

Now in its third year, Japan Fest — which takes place within the Fabulous Fifth Avenue Fair — drew massive crowds who enjoyed Japanese food staples like tempura and squid, along with traditional dance performances.

On Saturday morning, more than 28,000 runners ran from Prospect Park to Coney Island for the RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon.
