Man shot, injured in broad daylight in Crown Heights

Detectives on the hunt for a suspect who shot a 23-year-old man in Crown Heights on Wednesday afternoon.

The NYPD released on Thursday morning images of the alleged perpetrator connected to the shooting, which occurred at about 1:35 p.m. on Sept. 10 near an apartment building at 261 Buffalo Ave. in Crown Heights.

Police said the suspect fired a single shot, striking the victim in the right leg, before fleeing north on Buffalo Avenue.

Officers from the 77th Precinct responded to the scene. EMS took the man to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition. Law enforcement sources said detectives are still establishing what led to the shooting, but noted that the victim did not know the shooter.

The Sept. 10 incident marked the 12th shooting so far this year in the 77th Precinct, per the latest police department data. As of Sept. 7, the precinct had reported 11 shootings, down from 21 during the same period last year — a decline of nearly 48%. Though gun violence has been declining in Brooklyn this year, the end of summer brought an uptick in shootings across the borough.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA). You can also submit tips online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, or on X (formerly Twitter) @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
