Police officers shot and critically wounded a man in Brooklyn while responding to a domestic violence call on Sunday morning, sources close to the investigation said.
The police-involved shooting happened at around 9 a.m. on Oct. 5 after police were called to an apartment complex located at 125 East 86th St. in Canarsie.
Officers from the 67th Precinct responded to the location after receiving a 911 call regarding the incident. Sources familiar with the case stated that the incident involved the man, who had apparently arrived at the location in violation of a court-ordered protection.
Upon arriving at the scene, sources said, the officers encountered the man, who was found to have a gun on him. The individual then fled on foot, leading officers to pursue him to the area of Coventry Road and East 86th Street.
During the pursuit, the sources said, one officer discharged their firearm, striking the man in the chest.
EMS rushed the man to Kings County Hospital in critical condition with a life-threatening injury.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police advise residents to avoid the area of Coventry Road between Dorset and East 86th Streets while the probe continues.
