‘The blessings don’t stop’: Hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes joins East Flatbush pol for holiday giveaway

Assembly Member Monique Chandler-Waterman delivered a big surprise for local families in need on Saturday, Nov. 22, at P.S. 135 in East Flatbush. The event offered youth access to mental health resources, a turkey giveaway, and a special appearance by hip-hop superstar Busta Rhymes.

The event — dubbed “The Blessings Don’t Stop” — was organized in collaboration with IAmWonda Woman, P.S. 135, District 18, LinkNYC, the AD58 Mental Health Taskforce, and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. It aimed to provide mental health support and resources to local families.

Last year, Rhymes headlined a giveaway hosted by Chandler-Waterman called “Harvesting Health & Harmony.”

The idea came together as a way to give back during a time of widespread need, Chandler-Waterman, as many families face food insecurity and rising grocery costs. Volunteers distributed turkeys, vegetables and potatoes, among other pantry items.

According to Hunger Solutions New York, one in 10 residents in the city struggles with food insecurity.

Music legend Busta Rhymes delivered a message of peace and hope, saying, “It is important to give back to those in need and remember where you came from and help those in need.”

Chandler-Waterman said the goal was to ensure that everyone has access to both mental health support and nutritious food during the holidays
