Gift hunting: Bay Ridge Center hosts second annual ‘Holiday Treasures Fair’

Members of the Bay Ridge community came together Nov. 22 at Bay Ridge Center for their second annual “Holiday Treasures Fair.” The event spotlighted gifts, crafts and homemade baked goods from local vendors to kick off the holiday shopping season.

This year’s fair drew strong attendance and featured a diverse lineup of sellers, including author Leokadia George, Grace Girl Cookies and several holiday-themed shops offering everything from handmade decor to winter accessories.

Todd Fliedner, executive director of the Bay Ridge Center, said he was thrilled to welcome neighbors back for another year.

“Here we bring together local merchants, artisans and bakers to get a jump on the holiday season,” he said. Fliedner also encouraged Brooklynites to shop local as they head into the busiest time of the year.

Many echoed that sense of community support. Walter Ochoa, owner of Right At Home in Home Care & Assistance, told Brooklyn Paper that the event was “very beautiful.”

“We have a lot of people here, from food to little scarves for the winter,” he said while acknowledging the community support at the Bay Ridge Center. “It’s a great activity, and we are so happy to help the local vendors of the city.”

Ochoa was joined by Amed Alfaraji, deputy executive director & strategic planning at the Bay Ridge Center — and a shopper himself — who said he appreciated both the crowd and vendors who provided “lovely” gifts to choose from.

Lori, a vendor selling Christmas-themed wares, said the center had “plenty for everyone, young and old.”
