Azerbaijan determined to have peace with Armenia solely on its own terms

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, in an interview with the Azertac news agency and the Hungarian Magyar Demokrata newspaper, which he gave during his official visit to Hungary, once again presented demands to Armenia—and under the name of “willingness to establish peace.”

“Azerbaijan is determined to achieve peace with Armenia. We (…) are convinced that the peace agenda should continue, we are determined to finish that process. The development of the final text of the [peace] agreement should also be completed, which should be based solely on the norms of international law,” said the Azerbaijani FM.

He noted that Baku’s position is so that “hostility remains behind and a new era begins between the two countries,” TASS reported.

At the same time, however, Bayramov accused Armenia of “provocations on the ground” from time to time. According to him, “a serious source of tension and volatility in the region is the presence of Armenian armed units (about 10,000 people) in the territory of Azerbaijan [i.e. Nagorno-Karabakh] maintained to this day.”

He stated that these units are kept by Armenia, which funds them from its state budget.

“Part of the personnel of those units is the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Armenia. There are many proofs confirming this,” added the Azerbaijani FM.
