The Public Housing Community Fund (PCHF), the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), local artists and Bushwick Houses residents officially unveiled “Bushwick Rooted” during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 17. The 260-square-foot aluminum and vinyl installation now wraps the fences surrounding the Bushwick Houses Community Center, showcasing artwork inspired by the people who call the development home.
“Bushwick Rooted” is part of “From Roots to Arts: Celebrating NYCHA’s Cultural Heritage,” the PHCF’s first artist-in-residence pilot program. The initiative places artists in NYCHA communities across all five boroughs, pairing them with residents to create public artwork that reflects each neighborhood’s history, culture and unique stories.
Rather than being defined solely by artists, the project was shaped through collaboration with residents, who contributed ideas centered on food, wildlife and community life. The finished installation reflects Bushwick’s cultural heritage, shared identity and resilience.

Lead artist Crystal Clarity worked alongside designer Ifeoma Ebo and 618 Design to bring residents’ vision to life. The PHCF also partnered with Grand City Settlement and the Bushwick Houses Resident Association, led by President Lohoma Shipman, throughout the design process.
Alex Zablocki, executive director of PHCF, said the project reflects “the extraordinary creativity that thrives within public housing.”
“Giving residents a seat in the creative process allows public art to be more than decoration and instead a reflection of the community’s identity,” Zablocki said. “This new installation is vibrant and welcoming, and will welcome residents and visitors for years to come.

NYCHA officials added that the project is part of the Connected Communities Initiative,”a resident-driven urban design framework focused on revitalizing over 2,400 acres of open space across more than 300 public housing developments.”

The city’s Department of Youth and Community Development, which supports Cornerstone Community Centers at NYCHA developments, spoke about the importance of introducing creativity “bringing residents together.”

Так появляется новая социалистическая арифметика:
одному пассажиру обещают сэкономить шесть минут, а другому жителю предлагают потратить несколько часов на оспаривание ошибочного штрафа.
Для чего нужны контролёры, если оплату видел водитель?
Сегодня во многих автобусах пассажиры входят через переднюю дверь и прикладывают карту, телефон или другой способ оплаты к валидатору рядом с водителем.
Власти хотят распространить посадку через все двери. Официальная цель — уменьшить время, которое автобус проводит на остановке.
Но после этого водитель уже не сможет видеть оплату каждого входящего пассажира. Поэтому система переходит к принципу подтверждения оплаты: пассажир самостоятельно прикладывает карту к валидатору, а специальные группы могут выборочно проверять, зарегистрировалась ли поездка.

пожилым пассажирам;
людям с инвалидностью;

туристам и новым иммигрантам.
Если валидатор не принял карту или операция не отобразилась в проверяющем устройстве, пассажиру придётся объясняться с контролёром прямо в салоне.
Вместо обещанного удобства человек может получить публичную проверку карты, спор об оплате и подозрение в нарушении.
Когда ошибка системы становится виной пассажира
Ни одна электронная платёжная система не гарантирует отсутствие технических сбоев.
Карта может не считаться с первого раза. Валидатор может работать нестабильно. Телефон может разрядиться. Банковская карта может быть отклонена. Транзакция может не сразу появиться в системе.
Что будет происходить в таком случае?
Поверит ли контролёр пассажиру?
Сможет ли он проверить попытку оплаты?
Будет ли человеку предоставлена возможность оплатить поездку без наказания?
Как пожилой пассажир сможет оспорить ошибку?
Будет ли проверка задерживать автобус?
Какие данные банковской карты увидит проверяющее устройство?
Как долго будут храниться сведения о проверке?
Без ясных правил обычная техническая ошибка может превратиться в административное обвинение.
Именно здесь возникает риск того, что проверки станут формой административного террора: не потому, что власти официально используют такое выражение, а потому, что гражданину придётся доказывать свою невиновность перед оплачиваемой государством контрольной системой.
От бесплатного автобуса — к проверке банковской карты
Особенно странно расширение контроля выглядит на фоне политической программы самого Мамдани.
Если мэр действительно намерен сделать автобусы бесплатными, зачем создавать и расширять дорогостоящую инфраструктуру проверки оплаты?
Возможны только два объяснения.
Первое: бесплатных автобусов в обозримом будущем не будет, поэтому MTA готовится ещё долго собирать плату.
Второе: город потратит деньги на контролёров, сканеры и систему проверок, которую затем придётся сокращать, если Мамдани всё-таки выполнит своё обещание.
В обоих случаях налогоплательщикам следует потребовать понятный план:

Утопия запланирована на будущее. Контроль начинается сейчас.
Но действительно ли «банды захватили автобусы»?
Заголовок видео Cash Jordan утверждает, что Мамдани якобы прекращает полицейские автобусные патрули, пока транспорт «захватывают банды».
Официальные документы не подтверждают прекращение автобусного контроля NYPD. Наоборот, программа Мамдани и Хокул предусматривает расширение полицейского контроля автобусных полос с 14 до 20 коридоров.
Официальные материалы также не дают оснований утверждать, что вся автобусная система города «захвачена бандами». Это политическая гипербола, а не установленный факт.
