The mother stabbed to death inside Brooklyn’s Lincoln Terrace Park on Tuesday was killed after she refused to have sex with her assailant, police said.

According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, 30-year-old Shakeema Davis was holding a late night barbecue in the park on Monday night into Tuesday morning with friends and her 7-year-old son when the attack occurred. The gathering began around 5 p.m. and involved some 15 to 2o people, including her alleged killer who authorities say once shared a relationship with her.

“Everybody’s hanging out, drinking, smoking, listening to music. Our eventual stabber keeps soliciting our victim for sex. She keeps saying no,” Chief Kenny explained, sharing that the advances soon turned into a full blown argument after she threw a drink at him and he launched an attack. “She actually picks up the barbecue in an attempt to get him away from her and strikes him with the barbecue. Once he’s struck with the barbecue, he pulls out a knife and stabs her three times.”

Davis suffered stab wounds to her body and head, a vicious attack that was not only witnessed by others at the party but also her young son. Authorities say that good samaritans attempted to stop the perpetrator, but he swiped at them with the knife and made his escape. He was last seen with no shirt and wearing gray pants. 

Meanwhile, Davis was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. 

Chief Kenny said that detectives were able to identify a car used by the suspect to flee the scene and are investigating a person of interest. However, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
